Think Therapy Interns Aren't As Good as Independently Licensed Providers? Think Again!

Hi Reader,

Let’s talk about something that might make you raise an eyebrow: working with a therapy intern.

I get it. The word “intern” can make you think of someone fumbling through their first day, spilling coffee, and asking a million questions.

But when it comes to therapy interns or pre-licensed providers, that couldn’t be further from the truth (especially when working in tightknit settings like Skadi).

So let's talk about who they are and what to expect. Therapy interns are in the final stages of their rigorous training. They’ve spent years studying, practicing, and honing their skills under the (very) watchful eyes of licensed professionals. Think of them as the rising stars of the therapy world—armed with fresh perspectives, the latest research, and a whole lot of enthusiasm.

And honestly? They might just be the best-kept secret in mental health care.

Let’s Bust the Myths
One of the biggest myths I hear is that more experience automatically means better results.

But research tells us otherwise. After a certain point, years in practice don’t necessarily make a therapist more effective. What really matters?

✨ Their ability to connect with you.
✨ Their openness to feedback.
✨ Their willingness to adapt to your unique needs.

And therapy interns? They’re trained to do exactly that.

They’re fresh out of the classroom, brimming with the latest techniques, and ready to give you their full attention. Plus, they’re not flying solo—every session is supervised by a licensed pro (like me! 🙋‍♀️) who reads and signs off on ALL of their progress notes, meets with them 1-2 hours a week to talk through cases, and provides a whole lot of mentorship and support. So, you’re basically getting two therapists for the price of one.

Why Skadi’s Interns Are Different
Many of you know how much I love to brag about our interns and pre-licensed providers at Skadi. These women moved to Minnesota from three different states to pursue specialized training that their programs didn't have available to them. They are complete go-getters. As of this spring, the 3 of them will have FIVE masters degrees and 2 are on their way to the PhD.

In other words, our team is made up of highly trained, passionate women who are dedicated to helping athletes and performers like you reach your goals. And because they limit the size of their caseloads, they have the time and energy to give you the personalized care you deserve. No more burnt out providers who can't remember the name of your cat.

Still Unsure? Let’s Break It Down
Here’s what you get when you work with a Skadi therapy intern:

1️⃣ Fresh Perspectives: They bring the latest research and techniques straight from their academic programs.

2️⃣ Two Minds for the Price of One: Every session is supervised by a licensed therapist, so you’re getting double the expertise.

3️⃣ Individualized Attention: With smaller caseloads, they can dedicate more time to tailoring their approach to your needs.

4️⃣ Affordability: High-quality care at a fraction of the cost? Yes, please.

Feelings of Never Being Enough: A Guide to Perfectionism for Athletes

Hi Reader,Calling all perfectionists in the house! For so many athletes, perfectionism feels like both a blessing and a curse. It’s what gets you out of bed for those early morning workouts. It’s what pushes you to dig deep when your legs are screaming to stop.It has a lot of different forms, and has created some interesting debates in the sport psychology world (good? bad? both?), but if there's anything I've learned, it's definitely a personality trait that you can't simply turn off. Calling All High School coaches! Is Your Team Culture Helping or Hurting?

Hi Reader,Let’s be real—coaching high school athletes is about so much more than training plans and race-day strategies. It’s about those moments that keep you up at night. Like when your top athlete pulls out of a race with a “stomachache” that’s really about anxiety. Or when you overhear a joke and wonder if your team culture is unintentionally pushing athletes away.Sound familiar? Your role as a coach goes far beyond teaching technical skills or improving race times. You’re shaping the...
